چکیده

A 13-month-old boy underwent placement of a tissue expander in the subgaleal plane in the forehead. The indication for skin expansion was a large congenital melanocytic nevus involving the forehead and glabella. Serial inflations of the expander were performed in the plastic surgery clinic using sterile equipment. Alcohol was used to prepare the skin overlying the injection port. Three months following the insertion of the tissue expander, the patient presented to the emergency department with fever up to 102.2◦F (39◦C), and a yellowish discharge from the surgical wound. The wound was dehisced (Fig 1). Cultures taken from the wound revealed growth of Candida Parapsilosis in 3 different sets taken 24 hours apart.

Investigation of OCH1 in the Virulence of Candida parapsilosis Using a New Neonatal Mouse Model

Candida parapsilosis is an opportunistic human fungal pathogen that poses a serious threat to low birth weight neonates, particularly at intensive care units. In premature infants, the distinct immune responses to Candida infections are not well understood. Although several in vivo models exist to study systemic candidiasis, only a few are available to investigate dissemination in newborns. In ...

Candida parapsilosis complex induces local inflammatory cytokines in immunocompetent mice.

Despite the increasing incidence of the Candida parapsilosis complex in the clinical setting and high mortality rates associated with disseminated infection, the host-fungus interactions regarding Candida parapsilosis sensu stricto and the closely related species C. orthopsilosis and C. metapsilosis remains blurred. In this study, we analyzed inflammatory cytokines levels and histopathology as ...

Characterization of Candida parapsilosis infection of an in vitro reconstituted human oral epithelium.

Oral candidosis is a common problem in immunocompromised patients, and whilst Candida albicans is regarded as the principal cause of infection, other non-Candida albicans Candida (NCAC) species are increasingly being recognized as human pathogens. Relatively little is known about the virulence factors associated with NCAC species, and the aim of this study was to use a reconstituted human oral ...

A case of breakthrough Candida parapsilosis fungemia during micafungin therapy for a Candida glabrata bloodstream infection

We describe a case of breakthrough Candida parapsilosis fungemia in an 80-year-old woman with pyoderma gangrenosum and rheumatoid arthritis. C. parapsilosis was detected in blood culture while the patient was treated with micafungin for a Candida glabrata bloodstream infection. The breakthrough infection was successfully treated with liposomal amphotericin B.

Microsatellite Genotyping of Candida parapsilosis Clinical Isolates

Background and Purpose: Candida parapsilosis is a predominant species found in nosocomial infection, particularly in hospitalized patients. The molecular epidemiology of the clinical strains of this species has not been well studied. The present study was performed with the aim of investigating the microsatellite genotyping of Candida parapsilosis among the Iranian clinical isolates. Materials...
